Designer Joana Santos Barbosa has drawn from her architectural background to create a chic, tabular rumination on classical Greek columns.
The Ionic side table explores the impact of passing centuries upon a fundamental of ancient Greek temples: Ionic columns made of three parts - base, shaft and capital - that have deteriorated and collapsed over time.
Metal-framed legs, hand-crafted in brushed brass, visualise missing column shafts with a tapered twist. The circular top is a clean and contemporary interpretation of a surviving capital - perhaps weathered by the years - while corresponding leg tips allude to the extant base.
A light grey, gloss lacquered surface completes this side table's architectural connotations, and is a sleek surface for a sculptural lamp or vase boasting metallic accents.
