To celebrate The National Gallery’s exhibition, ‘Reflections: Van Eyck and the Pre-Raphaelites’, we’re inviting you to follow us @luxdeco and @national_gallery on Instagram and share an image inspired by reflections, surprising details and fantastical worlds reflected in mirrors.

The Pre-Raphaelites were fascinated by the convex mirror at the heart of Jan van Eyck’s ‘Arnolfini Portrait’.

The pinpoint sharpness of the mirror, the way it could actually capture the external world in such precision and clarity was compared, at the time, to the camera, and what photography could achieve in capturing reality with sharpness, focus and detail.

Look closely for surprising details, exquisite embellishments, and fantastical worlds reflected in mirrors around you and share your image with us on Instagram using the hashtag #NGReflections, or you can email your entry to

One winner will win the Cuba Mirror worth £475, plus an afternoon tea for two at the National Gallery, tickets to ‘Reflections: Van Eyck and the Pre-Raphaelites’, exhibition catalogue and a goody bag.
