From azure to indigo, fashion designers have been blazing a style trail in blue. Television presenter and fashion journalist Louise Roe shows how to master blue interiors and how you can take the hue from runway to room.
“Cobalt, electric, azure, cornflower and teal – a zingy, punchy range of blue hues ruled the spring/summer 2013 runways (à la the gorgeous looks at Vera Wang’s show) and are now making their way into interiors. A pop of colour adds an instant edge to any outfit, just as the right accessory can lift a look into chic territory. And the same goes for your interiors. Add a statement piece to any room with a splash of azure. I love how trans-seasonal this colour is – it’s as equally vibrant for summer as it is decadent for winter, so play around with it and experiment. Personally, I think it looks best in rich fabrics such as velvet or suede, up against equally opulent shades like mahogany, taupe and terracotta. Just as you layer pieces and accessories when styling an outfit, mix in different textures, patterns and tones as Vera Wang has done to add depth and interest to your home. A room awash with blue from wall to wall can be elegant when executed well, but if that’s too bold for you, opt for a statement item such as a chair, cushion or objet.”
