Discover Stuart Scott
A graduate from Ravensbourne College of Design in 1993, Stuart Scott built his eponymous tailored furniture brand out of a passion for combining design with function. Having spent time in the Middle East working for clients there, he cites the UAE as an inspiration. “From pieces by Giacometti, Jean Michel Frank, Eugene Printz, Salvador Dali and Lucio Fontana this was the quintessential toyshop of superlative creations which were just there to admire and study,” Stuart says. But it was major auctions which “yield yet more rare and important furniture where my love of beautiful furniture really started,” the designer enthuses. When Stuart talks about what a typical day entails he is quick to say, “It starts off fairly structured but could end up anywhere.” Adding, “My four-year-old daughter will then call me up around 5pm and say ‘Daddy, can you come home now?’ Now what can you say to that?”
Stuart Scott lives in a Grade 2 Listed Georgian Townhouse in Wiltshire. “The interior is an eclectic mix of traditional and mid-century modern,” he explains. Stuart says he can’t live at home without his “Eames EA108 and Pieff Beta Swivel Chair and 1970s Danish Modern armchairs”.
To discover amazing things for the home locally go to Donnington Priory in Newbury during one of their decorative art and design auctions.
Lap of Luxury
With comfort, warmth and fragrance equalling luxury at home for Stuart, it’s no surprise that he says when it comes to splurges for the home that one should go all out on “a great sofa and at least one antique that means something to them”.
