Responsible for the fab interiors at Wallpaper* for a number of years, Suzy Hoodless barely needs an introduction. “I was the Interiors Editor at Wallpaper* magazine for five years, travelling the world reporting on trends, art directing shoots, meeting designers, manufacturers, suppliers and attending all the top trade fairs,” she says. But for those of you not familiar with her status let us do the legwork for you. Her career began under the guidance of Tricia Guild in 1992 at Designers Guild where she worked as assistant to the creative team. She has also worked for House & Garden and after leaving Wallpaper* in 2000 she set up an interior design consultancy and continued to style and art direct for publications including Casa Vogue, US House & Garden, The Saturday Telegraph, The Sunday Times as well as advertising campaigns including Louis Vuitton, Stella Artois, Sony, Colefax and Fowler, Gucci, Conran, Wedgwood and Cassina, Milan. Suzy’s experience means she’s more than adept in discovering luxury when it comes to the home but we had to laugh when she said “Luxury to me means dimmers on all lighting!” – a true interiors enthusiast!
When we asked Suzy what one should splurge on for the home she answered, “Good linen, it makes such a difference. Rugs make a huge difference in the home too and comfortable upholstery.”
I am drawn towards nature, colour, architecture and geometric shapes. I have over 18,000 pictures on my computer and now a growing account on Instagram.
Suzy’s home, she says, “Is a family home first and foremost”. She also favours comfortable and ergonomic design – this may have something to with the fact her home houses five people who all have very varied and hectic schedules. Design wise it’s modern, classic, design led with punches of colour and humour.
