Behind The Brand

Laura Hammett Living

The London interior designer releases her debut home accessories collection.

Jonathon Warren By Jonathon WarrenCommercial Director

Introducing the first home accessories collection by Laura Hammett Living, the new brand by the renowned London-based designer, designed exclusively for LuxDeco.

“We’ve been working with LuxDeco for many years and I’m a massive fan of their brand and what they do,” the designer reveals. “As a studio, we create completely bespoke interiors from architecture right through to furniture, but accessories is one area where we have to really work with what’s available on the market, so when I was given the opportunity to design a bespoke collection completely from scratch, it was a dream come true. I got to really think about what I wished existed on the market and that’s essentially how this collection came about.”

Known for her international projects comprising a Grade II-listed Belgravia townhouse, a penthouse on New York’s 5th Avenue and a 36-metre private jet, Laura’s interior design brand is rooted in classic contemporary elegance. Now, the designer offers that elegance in bite-sized form, the kind that would wrap nicely as a gift for a special friend (or as a gift for yourself when you’re feeling slightly less charitable—we won’t tell).

"When I was given the opportunity to design a bespoke collection completely from scratch, it was a dream come true."

The 48-piece collection of elevated staples is completely designed by Laura herself, in collaboration with LuxDeco’s network of fine artisans of British glassblowers, Nepalese cashmere weavers and other skilled makers. So, whether practical or decorative, a handy storage box or a luxury cushion, the beauty of the collection is that, whatever the piece, elegance is the key and quality is the core, guaranteed by the Laura Hammett Living logo.

Thoughtful, Laura designed with the intention of creating pieces which might one day be handed down from generation to generation. “For me, design should be completely timeless. I like good quality pieces that will still feel relevant in ten year’s time. Everything we’ve designed and created with LuxDeco is so beautifully made with incredible detailing. The designs are quite elegant and classic.”

Details include impossibly perfect proportions seen on the handles of the collection’s square tray, a silky flange detail which finishes off cushion designs in an extra-special way or a handworked brass chamfered corner which adorns the Elemental range—a selection of tabletop essentials, available in two colourways.

“We’ve gone with different colourways, again, taking reference from projects that we’ve created in the past,” Laura reveals of the collection’s opposing ivory and bronze palettes, “We’ve got those two colourways throughout almost every single product so you’ve got the option to mix and match.”

Ever the practical designer, Laura incorporates faux suede bases into the designs to prevent them from scratching delicate surfaces. It’s the little things, indeed. That said, she’s also created media boxes which can actually hold a remote control, so sometimes it’s the big things too.

Of the process, the designer reflects, “The LuxDeco team were so supportive and collaborative, allowing me to work very closely with them on the production of each sample until I was completely happy. I got an opportunity to visit the glass factory and have a go at hand-blowing some glass myself, which really gave me a new-found appreciation for the skill that has gone into the vases in this collection.”

Hand-blown glass vases included, the designs in the debut collection are destined to remain the constant in a home’s repertoire—an elegant thread to be woven through the changing seasons and trends of a home. Whereas, today, the pieces might sit perfectly against a background of relaxed linen sofas and natural woods (how we imagine Laura would style them in her own home), when the design world revisits 1930s Hollywood Regency or perhaps moves onto some post-pandemic interior theatre, there will still be a place for these timeless designs.

Picture the collection’s beige cashmere throw, with its sumptuous handle and tonal trim, paired with a French bergère, its modern elegance updating an old favourite. Then picture it in an industrial loft space where its perfectly chamfered corners offer a refined edge. Or the Linden Candle Holder Centrepiece, covered in understated foliage, which would look as wonderful on a fireplace mantel in a bleached wood Scandinavian bedroom as it would on a glorious dining table bedecked in its finery.

But it is the lover of elegance and understatement who will enjoy this collection most. The one for whom design will always be more about the restrained, smaller details—the whisper of refinement. That is Laura Hammett’s signature.
