Purveyors of luxury rugs, Nourison is recognised for its outstanding ability to master colour, craft and creativity. Over its 40 year-history, the American brand has established itself as being one of the go-to sources for interior designers wanting to bring exceptionally well-made modern rugs into homes and hotels across the US and beyond.

Family at its heart

Nourison was founded by brothers Paul, Alex and Stephen Peykar in 1980s New York, each bringing with them industry experience and a promising reputation in the flooring arena. Aware of the challenges facing retailers, they set out to build a wholesale model that valued customer service and a controlled supply chain, consequently revolutionising the market. Their philosophy was succinct and laser focused: to address the retailers’ greatest concerns; make their products out of only the finest quality materials and to provide timely delivery.

Nourison remains a family-owned company despite its incredible growth and has established its position as one of the US’ largest importers of rugs. Boasting more than 4,000 styles of rug, from subtle rustic textures to intricate 3-dimensional designs, the brothers still hold a notable record of shipping more than 95% of its orders within 48 hours.

The wonder of weaving

Champions of using traditional methods and combining them with a modern sensibility, Nourison has unquestionably mastered the art of hand-woven and hand-tufted techniques. By keeping its manufacturing in house, Nourison is able to not only maintain a watchful eye over quality control, but can continue to innovate and evolve at a faster rate.

Market-leaders in ‘broad looming’, the design house is able to produce their Nourison rugs on specialised looms to a scale that enables them to run wall to wall as an alternative to a fitted carpet. Nourison is able to utilise their broadloom to produce custom-made large rugs to fit any space where a sense of comfort, colour or pattern is sought after on a dramatic scale.

The Nourison design team puts great emphasis on weaving with sustainable, natural fibres wherever possible, varying their styles to include thick pebble weaves, hand-knotted tassels and cross-stitch details, heralding it as the most diverse custom rug programme in the industry.

Inspired collections and collaborations

Over the decades, the company has continued to evolve from its signature (and patented) Soumak weave first created in 1994, evocative of an antique masterpiece, to its more modern silk and wool weaves and collaborations with the likes of Clavin Klien. Nourison’s collections have a real breadth available to suit every space. Finding fresh inspiration every year, the brothers form collections that each tell a different story. The Passion Collection, for example, is a combination of vibrant and traditional Persian floral motifs, whereas the Native Art Collection, made up of cotton accent rugs, focuses on tribal patterns with fringing. Recently releasing the Accents Collection; the brand’s first range of home accessories, cushions and throws, the brand has proven yet again that it will continue to move from strength to strength.
