How To Refresh Your Guest Bedroom

Upgrading your guest bedroom is perhaps the most self-gratifying hosting you’ll ever do.

With the inevitable festive guest influx on the snow-clad horizon, now’s as good a time as any to get your abode into proper hotel-worthy order. Of course, if any room is to channel that home-away-from-home appeal it should be your guest bedroom. Free from the day-to-day disheveling that is just getting ready for work/the gym/going out, these occasional rooms are picture-perfect sanctuaries which represent how we’d like our houses to look all the time.

Let’s face it—we all live vicariously through our guest rooms (well, who doesn’t want freshly laundered dressing gowns and blooming bouquets every day?) So do yourself (and your visitors) a favour and give yours a seasonal upgrade. Go on—we won’t tell them it’s not totally for them.

Upgrade your furniture

Replace any guest room furniture which is showing signs of wear or is otherwise dating the space, and consider some Luxury Bedroom Furniture additions which would be helpful to your guests like a bench at the end of the bed, a luggage rack or a reading chair. Once the bedroom’s base is ready, all the extras will shine even more.

Keep your guest room neutral

It makes good sense to decorate a guest room with only style (not a particular personality) in mind. Keep tones neutral and unisex, and don’t include anything that’s overly directional. To make an impact, bring in interesting artwork and patterned cushions.

Make your guest room welcoming

Flowers are most definitely an essential (faux florals are an easy choice) as are extra blankets, hot water bottles and a candle or diffuser. Think—a guest room should fall somewhere between the comfort of home and the indulgence of a hotel.

Offer your guests the unexpected

A stylish lap tray is the foundation of a guest-pleasing breakfast or supper in bed (especially if they arrive late at night), a handy leather tray will keep loose change safe and a watch winder will allow them to keep their timepieces in perfect condition.

Remember the forgotten

It’s inevitable that something will be forgotten in the process of planning and packing for a trip. Don’t have your guests endure their stay without these easily forgotten items—an interesting nighttime read, toiletry basics, tissue box, charging dock and slippers.

Provide your guests with the essentials

A bale of towels, laundry bag and dressing gown might be guest room basics, but that doesn’t mean that their quality has to be. Monogrammed towels, high thread count linens and luxuriously soft cotton towels elevate a guest room.
