Man Cave Cool: 6 Masculine Interior Design Ideas

These bachelor pads have got us a little weak at the knees

Mention the words “man cave” and thoughts of an at-home games arcade, wall-hung guitars and shapeless beanbags come to mind. Not the most stylish of looks but definitely a comfort zone we crave (let’s be honest, formal sofas look incredible but feet up at the end of the day is just too tempting to resist).

The darkened colour palettes create a cocoon-like security, the furniture is oversized and welcoming and minimal accessories are conducive to relaxing. Thankfully, luxury man cave interior design can be achieved and we called in a few of our favourites to show how.

The Quintessential Man Cave

Greg Natale is a master of infusing a modern masculine sensibility into any space. Moody palettes (check out the epitome of that here), simple silhouettes and sexy finishes are all in the GN arsenal. Championing the signature style, this open-plan living room is a quintessential masculine space. Close proximity to the kitchen, a silken rug and clean-lined furniture—everything the modern gent needs.

The Games Man Cave

Is there anything this room is lacking when it comes to ultimate man cave style? Fun yet sophisticated, this design by Katharine Pooley is the ultimate boys’ room. The gentlemanly seating area (notice the tailored lines and nailhead trim of the armchairs) and bar are separated by a social area complete with juke box and Art Deco pool table. Just imagine the classy boys nights around that beauty.

The Working Man Cave

We’re not sure whether it’s the smart parquet flooring, jet black desk and chair combination or grand bookcases but this office design by Godrich Interiors makes a workday seem much more appealing. Cleverly, it makes use of traditional pieces whilst remaining up-to-date courtesy of new neutral walls and refined accents. And the smoking pipe match holder is a quirky touch.

The Refined Man Cave

Then there are those man caves where dressing in your comfiest sweats isn’t the most appropriate attire. This handsome Mayfair residence by Katharine Pooley makes use of wood panelled walls—the epitome of luxury masculine styling—tailored armchairs and contemporary lighting. All design choices suitable choices for man caves with a refined sensibility.

The Traditional Man Cave

Deeply button-tufted upholstery has had numerous style makeovers over the years but the truth is that it will always remain a very masculine look. And that couldn’t be truer than this bedroom by MPD London. With furniture and wall upholstery realised in suave navy blue and chocolate brown, accents of rich mahogany tones and spacious, lounge-worthy armchairs, the design is stylishly devoid of feminine touches.

The Family Man Cave

As much as man caves are traditionally a space for men only, this living room design by Zephyr Interiors is a family-friendly way to incorporate the style. The smart lines of its oversized coffee table are softened by its upholstery element and the generous sofa and recessed TV are equally great for movie night with the family and game day with the boys. A wall of graffiti-like art is the perfect finishing touch.
