Favouring neutral simplicity and a delicate design of concentric circles framed within a deep border, the Vortigern rug from Luke Irwin echoes the aged aesthetic and tactile texture of ancient mosaics. Each tessera is rendered in Persian hand-knotted silk and ingeniously defined by a wool contour that’s been oxidised down to the warp.

CRAFTED BY HAND
Seven stages of artisanal expertise accomplish each rug. From carding, spinning and dying the fibres to shaving the pile with scissors, the process – entirely executed by hand – requires several months of meticulous crafting, ethically performed in India. The result is a truly individual work of art..
